San Camp

Makgadikgadi Pans, Botswana

Jack’s Camp’s sister property, a dreamlike white-tented camp set directly on the edge of the salt pans.

Overview

San Camp sits directly on the edge of the Makgadikgadi salt pans, Uncharted Africa’s sister property to Jack’s Camp, its all-white canvas tents creating a deliberately dreamlike, minimalist counterpoint to its neighbour’s antique-filled style.

Rooms & Table

The Rooms

White canvas tents with four-poster beds and simple, elegant furnishings, each positioned to look directly out over the open pan.

Food & Service

A refined dining programme often served with views directly onto the pan’s stark white expanse.

Activities

Quad-biking onto the salt pans, sleep-outs beneath the stars on the open pan itself, and cultural excursions with San Bushmen guides.

Wildlife & Photography

As with Jack’s Camp, the pans’ meerkat colonies and seasonal zebra migration are the primary wildlife draws, alongside the sheer visual drama of the landscape itself.

A Photographer's Note

A night spent sleeping out on the open pan, weather permitting, offers some of the clearest, least light-polluted night sky photography available anywhere in southern Africa.

Conservation & Impact

San Camp shares Uncharted Africa’s long-standing research and San Bushmen community partnerships tied to the Makgadikgadi ecosystem.
