Sussi & Chuma takes its name from Abdullah Susi and James Chuma, the two African companions who carried David Livingstone’s body over a thousand miles to the coast after his death, and sits on the Zambezi’s banks a short drive from Victoria Falls.
Rooms & Table
The Rooms
Treehouse-style chalets built into the riverine forest canopy on raised platforms, each with a private deck facing the Zambezi.
Food & Service
Zambian and international dishes served with river views, in a lodge whose elevated design keeps it close to the surrounding wildlife.
Activities
Sunset cruises on the Zambezi, guided falls tours, and game drives in the adjoining Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.
Wildlife & Photography
The riverine forest surrounding the lodge supports elephant, hippo and a wide range of birdlife along this stretch of the upper Zambezi.
A Photographer's Note
The elevated treehouse decks put photographers at canopy level, useful for birdlife and river views without the need to leave the lodge.
Conservation & Impact
The lodge’s name and story deliberately foreground African historical figures often erased from colonial-era Livingstone narratives, alongside practical support for Mosi-oa-Tunya conservation initiatives.
