Arusha Coffee Lodge occupies part of the Burka Coffee Estate on the outskirts of Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru, built around a homestead that dates to the early 1900s. It serves as the classic gateway property for northern Tanzania safaris, close to Kilimanjaro International Airport, with thirty plantation-style rooms and suites set among the coffee bushes.
Thirty Plantation Rooms and Suites set among the coffee bushes: the Suites add a private sun terrace with a log-fire burner and a triple-headed rainfall shower alongside a separate bathtub, while the Rooms keep to a simpler en-suite bathroom and an in-room log fire.
Three distinct venues cover the day: an à la carte Grill Room in the main house for dinner, a daily four-course buffet luncheon served in the garden, and an all-day Bistro café with its own pizza oven and coffee station.
Guided walks through the coffee plantation, garden strolls and a swimming pool fill the time either side of a safari, with the lodge functioning as the standard first- or last-night stop before or after game drives into Arusha National Park, Ngorongoro or the wider northern circuit.
Arusha Coffee Lodge is not itself a game-viewing property, but neighbouring Arusha National Park offers giraffe, buffalo and black-and-white colobus monkeys against the backdrop of Mount Meru, making it a workable half-day addition before or after the main circuit.
The coffee estate itself is the subject here — rows of coffee bushes, pickers at work in season, and Mount Meru appearing above the plantation on clear mornings.
