On a remote bank of the Western Ramganga River inside the Kalagarh Tiger Reserve division of Corbett Tiger Reserve, reached only by foot or 4x4 plus a river crossing.
Vanghat sits on a secluded bend of the Western Ramganga River, accessible only via a 1.8-kilometre cross-country walk or a raft crossing after a 4×4 transfer – there’s no vehicle safari here, only walking safaris, birding, and fishing led by local naturalists. Its nine stone and mud-thatched cottages were built with minimal environmental impact, and the lodge has earned a following among hardcore birders and wildlife photographers precisely because it refuses to be an easy, drive-up destination.
Walking safaris, birding, and angling on the Ramganga River, all led on foot rather than by vehicle – the lodge does not offer conventional jeep game drives.
Because sightings here happen on foot rather than from a vehicle, photographers get a rare eye-level vantage on birds and riverine wildlife that jeep safaris elsewhere in Corbett can’t match.
