Lemala Ngorongoro Camp

Ngorongoro Crater rim, Tanzania

A more understated tented camp on the crater rim, offering the same extraordinary access without the theatrical scale of its neighbours.

Overview

Lemala Ngorongoro Camp sits among indigenous forest on the crater rim, a genuine tented camp experience that favours a quieter, more traditional safari style over the elaborate design statements found at some neighbouring properties.

Rooms & Table

The Rooms

Spacious canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms, set among the forest with private verandas, comfortably rather than extravagantly furnished.

Food & Service

Tanzanian and international dishes served in a mess tent overlooking the forest, with a genuinely personal, small-camp atmosphere.

Activities

Game drives down into the crater floor, forest walks around the rim, and cultural visits to local Maasai villages.

Wildlife & Photography

As with all crater-rim properties, access to the crater floor’s concentrated wildlife, including a resident black rhino population, is the primary draw.

A Photographer's Note

The crater rim’s forest, cooler and greener than the crater floor itself, offers a change of pace for birding and smaller-subject photography between game drives.

Conservation & Impact

The camp supports Ngorongoro Conservation Area’s community revenue-sharing model, which channels park fees back into surrounding Maasai communities.
