Mihingo Lodge

Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda

A lodge built into a rocky outcrop overlooking Lake Mburo National Park, known for horseback safaris and close zebra encounters.

Overview

Mihingo Lodge is built directly into a rocky outcrop overlooking Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest savanna park and one of the few in East Africa where horseback safaris are offered alongside conventional game drives.

Rooms & Table

The Rooms

Tented cottages built among the rocks, each with a private veranda facing the park’s savanna and acacia woodland.

Food & Service

Ugandan and international dishes served with panoramic views, often with zebra and impala visible grazing near the lodge itself.

Activities

Horseback safaris across Lake Mburo’s savanna, game drives, boat safaris on the lake, and mountain biking through the park.

Wildlife & Photography

Lake Mburo holds Uganda’s only population of impala and a healthy population of zebra, alongside eland and a significant leopard population relative to the park’s small size.

A Photographer's Note

Horseback safaris allow a genuinely different, quieter approach to grazing zebra and impala than a vehicle typically permits, useful for closer, less startled compositions.

Conservation & Impact

The lodge supports Lake Mburo’s community conservation programmes and broader efforts to protect Uganda’s remaining savanna habitat outside its larger northern parks.
