Oliver’s Camp was established by Iain Allan and later shaped further by the guiding family behind it into one of Tarangire’s original walking-safari operations, a small camp built specifically around genuinely knowledgeable, on-foot guiding.
A small number of canvas tents set beneath acacia woodland, simply furnished with en-suite bathrooms, deliberately unshowy in keeping with the camp’s walking-safari ethos.
Home-style meals served communally, often followed by conversation with the camp’s guiding team about the day’s walk.

Tarangire holds one of Tanzania’s largest elephant concentrations outside the Serengeti ecosystem, along with a strong population of baobab trees that define the park’s distinctive landscape.
Walking safaris here offer a genuinely different photographic register: low-angle, ground-level perspectives on tracks, dung and smaller wildlife that a vehicle simply can’t provide.
Oliver’s Camp has long supported Tarangire’s ecosystem-wide elephant research and community conservation programmes in the park’s surrounding Maasai lands.
