Iceland

Book Journey

Summary

(Iceland)

Iceland’s wildlife peaks offshore and in the air: whales and dolphins cruise nutrient-rich waters; seals dot coastlines; immense seabird colonies—puffins, auks, terns—crowd cliffs. Terrestrial life is sparse beyond the native Arctic fox. Pristine habitats, marine protections, and control of introductions preserve a rare window into North Atlantic marine and seabird ecosystems shaped by ice, wind, and volcanoes.
